Fishing Books for Kids

I am an elementary teacher, father and avid fisherman.  I love great books for kids.  I also love great books about fishing.  If you have a child who loves to catch fish, this blog will help you find an amazing book to put in his hands.

Why Read Fishing Books?

As an elementary teacher, I can tell you that one of the most important things that kids need practice reading is nonfiction and the common core test are strong in evaluating reading nonfiction.  In fact, in New York State, 50 % of what kids need to read is nonfiction.

Fishing books help students to learn in two areas.  First, it helps them improve their reading and comprehension.  Second, it helps students learn critical science concepts.  The majority of the elementary science curriculum in most schools deals with the living world, food chains and food webs.  What better what to learn about these ideas than through your child's love of fishing.

I can't tell you how many science conversations I've had with my son about fishing.  He would love a great book that he can read that is about fishing.

There is only one catch.  There aren't a lot of great fishing books out there for kids.  At this blog you'll learn about fishing books that are also great reads and quality literature.  I will also have links to great fishing sites for kids.
